Traditional technical analysis teaches us to draw horizontal lines across swing highs and lows. While this provides a strong visual framework, pairing price action with volume-at-price concepts unlocks a deeper level of analytical precision.
When price approaches a historical inflection point, what determines whether it bounces cleanly or slices through like a warm knife through butter? The answer lies in order flow and volume distribution.
Volume Profiles: High Volume Nodes vs Low Volume Nodes
A standard volume histogram at the bottom of your chart shows how much trading activity occurred during a specific time interval. In contrast, a Volume Profile shows how much volume transacted at each specific price level.
High Volume Nodes (HVNs): Prices where massive transaction volume accumulated over weeks. These areas act as market magnets and strong consolidation zones. Price often pauses and ranges around HVNs.
Low Volume Nodes (LVNs): Prices where very few transactions occurred because price moved through rapidly. When price returns to an LVN that coincides with a sharp swing point, it frequently rejects immediately with aggressive momentum, providing pristine support or resistance reactions.
Putting It All Together in Practice
In our advanced weekend clinics at Core Connect Point, we teach students to identify triple confluence setups:
- A multi-week horizontal support level.
- An aligned Low Volume Node or Point of Control (POC) boundary.
- A clear exhaustion wick on the lower execution timeframe.
When all three factors align, the statistical probability of a clean reaction increases dramatically, giving you high conviction with tight, logical invalidation rules.
